Meet the Teachers

Natasha Milliken has an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching young children for 23 years. Tasha has had the pleasure of teaching all different age groups, and loves them all. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a child grow and learn.

Samantha Hess lives just outside of Newport. When she is not working at the daycare she is working on her family’s farm. Sam graduated from Newport High School in 2011 where she was also enrolled at Cumberland Perry AVTS in their Child Care and Guidance program. Sam has since earned her Child Development Associate. She loves working and spending time with children and looks forward to the day when she has her own.

We are happy to welcome you to the K-4 classroom. This room is full of happy, energetic, silly, and loving Four to Five year-olds.
We love learning, playing, singing, dancing, reading Bible stories, and telling stories. We also form great bonds and relationships with our friends and teachers.

Curriculum & Transitioning

The K-4 classroom combines the expectations of Perry County School District’s and Teaching Strategies curriculum in their daily lesson plans. This curriculum allows children the opportunity to explore the world of play along with daily academic lessons and activities associated with getting prepared for kindergarten. Some of the activities that your child will participate in to transition to Kindergarten are;

  • Raising hands to speak and taking turns speaking

  • Standing in line and quietly transitioning to another area in line

  • Working/playing cooperatively with classmates

  • Self-help skills: tying shoes, working buttons and zippers of own clothes

  • Improve fine and gross motor skills

  • Conflict resolution, taking turns and following directions

Baskets

Your child will have a basket at the end of the K-3 and K-4 hallway downstairs. This is where their extra clothes, hats, mittens, sunglasses, or any special nap blanket or stuffed animal that needs to be taken home on a daily basis will be stored. Coats and snow suits can be hung in bags on the hangers under their basket. Please make sure everything is marked with your child’s name. We ask that no food/drink or medication be stored in their basket due to the safety of all children. Please check the basket every day as this may also have projects or art that your child has done to be taken home.

Bathroom

The bathrooms are located in the lobby. They are monitored at all times because so many children are just learning how to use the potty independently. We encourage every child to try to use the potty at each bathroom time. There are accidents from time to time so please make sure your child’s basket has a full, weather appropriate, correctly sized change of clothes at all times.

Parent Communication

Our classroom is open to communicating with the families at all times The K-4 Explorers weekly lesson plans, and any other information or notes from the office will usually be found on your child’s sign-in and sign-out sheets. We also have a weekly newsletter, quarterly center newsletter and join us on Facebook! Each child also has a folder in the classroom that holds art work in.

The best time to address us with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have is at drop off and pick up time or call the director for a scheduled time @ 717-567-3333.

We enjoy having all children in our care and feel that every child is created unique and special. We enjoy teaching your child as well as learning from them.
Our goal is for each child to respect God, themselves, each other, and their teachers, just as we respect each individual child for whom they are.
